123-005 50kN Hydraulic Geotextile grip

Image
This hefty grip was designed for a customer who was testing geotextiles. The grip weighs a whopping 60kg (approx) but is required in order to meet the requirements of the material. These grips have a maximum clamping force of 200kN, with a maximum tensile load of 50kN. They accommodate samples to with a maximum width of 200mm, and maximum sample thickness of 14mm. The maximum hydraulic pressure is 700 bar. We have engineered similar grips for different tensile loads, and clamping strengths - ideally for use on our U-Series machine . 137-008 Self Tightening Double Bollard Cord Grip

Image
Our engineers took inspiration from the world of 'Yachting' when designing this grip. It is a variation of our existing HT32 grip which has a manual clamp. The 137-008 Self Tightening Double Bollard Cord Grip has sprung loaded eccentric clamp rollers which increases the gripping pressure with cord tension. These are rated at 20kN Max capacity.

Bridge Building Contest

Image
We hosted the Twelfth Annual Super Light Weight Composite Bridge & Wing Building Contest at the SAMPE 2009, in Baltimore, MD last month. The competition runs annually at SAMPE and we co-sponsored the competition. The results were very impressive with over 80 entrants to the competition. Each bridge and wing was tested on a Tinius Olsen U-Series machine with self-aligning compression attachment & base fixture to position the bridge in place. Students built bridges and wings to design specification by SAMPE ( click here for more information ) – one of the best bridges was number 41 – University Delaware. The bridge which won the competition was designed by students of the University of Washington – Video number 71 – it had the highest ultimate load to weight ratio. Video footage of the testing results which were performed at the show can be found on the Tinius Olsen website Interested in taking part next year? This is a competition which runs annually at the SAMPE show – SAMPE

Tinius Olsen - Medical Grips

Image
We have designed a range of grips for use in the medical market. The grips are manufactured from high quality stainless steel and every part is passivated. Each grip was immersion tested for 48hours in 0.9% saline at 37 deg C. After this they were stripped down and inspected for any signs of corrosion rusting or mould growth. Once satisfied that the immersion test had passed, we proof loaded the grips. Every grip in the medical range is clearly marked with a grip reference number and a max load rate.

High temperature - Compression cages

Image
Here at Tinius Olsen the engineers have designed yet another custom grip attachment. Two version of the new high temperature compression cages for use in an environmental chamber . Part numbers 270 032 & 270 033. The Compression cages are rated at 25kN and 50kN, and can be tested at temperatures between -70 to +200 degrees C. They are designed to test the largest possible samples that can be tested in the Environmental chamber . As sample with maximum size of 100mm wide x 200mm deep x 200mm high. 300kN Self Aligning tensile fitting

Image
This is a 300 kN Self Aligning fitting designed for Tension testing applications only. It has an M36 lower and an M42 Upper bolt - to fit to the machine. The fitting to fitting to which you would attach the grips is M36. It meets the requirements of ASTM E8 Standard test method for tension testing metallic materials. It may also be used when working to ASTM E21-03a Elevated temperature tension tests.

New High-Tech Grip Range

Image
Tinius Olsen’s new high-tech grip range sets the standard for all quality control testing needs. The new range of grips are quick and easy to use. They have a metallic appearance and are corrosion and rust resistant, finished to with-stand harsh conditions. The grip capacity, and part number are etched onto the grips body for easy reference, and are supplied with digital manuals and consumables parts list. As well as this standard range of grips, there are medical compliant versions, which are designed to be used in saline environments. What if I don’t have a Tinius Olsen machine? The new high-tech grip range is interfaced to fit all major brands of Testing Machine. Industry standard adaptors allow the grips to be used on Testing Machines including Instron materials testing machines and many more. The grips have interfaces to fit the B,C, and D fittings of Instron Testing machines as well as 5/8 interface, 3/4 interface and an M6 interface for lighter loadcells. We are aware of the va
