Materials testing platform technology overview

Tinius Olsen Materials testing platform technology overview Overview of a materials testing platform based on a U series 300kN testing machine. Same technology is available for lower capacity materials testing machines from 10kN up to 300kN bench and floor standing systems.

High Elongation U Series

Tinius Olsen provides all kinds of customizations for our testing equipment and the most recent series to be modified is the U series. The U series machines are floor standing tension and compression materials testing machines, used to test the physical strength of a vast range of materials, and are available in maximum capacities from 100kN to 300kN.   Until now the maximum crosshead travel has been limited to 1,200mm, but with these new custom frames, this maximum has increased to 2,000mm. To achieve this 66% increase in test height, without increasing the machine height (of 2.85m) the machine’s controls and electronics are removed from the test frame and relocated into a separate housing, as seen in the artist rendition here.   All other machine performance specifications remain the same.

Testing Seat Belts

Many of the world’s major seat belt manufacturers use Tinius Olsen tensile testing machines to test seat belts and associated components to prove strength and performance. Tinius Olsen’s H100K-U tensile testing machine along with test specific grips HT43 proves to be the best solution for testing seat belts complying with international standards such as ASTM D6775 and BS 3254.  Seat belts store a great amount of energy before breaking, hence the break is violent. One of the nice feature of Tinius Olsen machines is TO offers a range of safety screens compatible with its U series tensile machines to protect users and contain component fragments. And the Horizon software produces the output graph (force against displacement) which gives a graphical representation of the seat belt performance during the test.   Quick Facts: A typical seat belt in a modern car can withstand a tensile breaking force in access of 2.5 tons (25kN)

NEW Compression Platens for U-Series

Image
We have just addes nine new platens to our range of Compression platens, these are for use with our U-Series machine. The New platens are available in 3 different capacities, 100kN, 150kN, and 300kN. The Platens also come in 3 different Diameters, 100mm, 150mm, and 200mm.
